Weekly lesson report:   37   Date: 25th March - 29th March              Class: 5B
                           
Subject: Learner Profile            
Activities done this week: Activities done this week: The learner profile which was followed this week was Thinker. Thinkers exercise initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems and make reasoned ethical decisions.

Upcoming activities / HW: The learner profile which will be followed next week is Inquirers. Students will develop their natural curiosity, and acquire the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research to show independence in learning. They actively enjoy learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.

Subject: Unit Of Inquiry

Title: Peace and Conflict
TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEME - Sharing The Planet
Central idea: Finding peaceful solutions to conflict leads to a better quality of human life.

Lines of Inquiry:
● Causes of conflict
● Conflict resolution and management
● Living and working together peacefully

Activities done this week:

  • Students discussed the 4 major causes of conflict - interpersonal, intrapersonal, intergroup and intragroup.
  • Students identify the reasons that provoke conflict.
  • Students were given conflict scenarios, they classified each scenario as submissive, aggressive or assertive after answering a few related questions.
  • Students wrote each type of sentence of scenarios discussed in class and realized the best way of handling conflicts.
  • Conflict resolution strategies were discussed.
Upcoming activities/ HW: Respond to the given scenarios and write 1 assertive, submissive and aggressive sentence. Do an inquiry on causes of conflict.


Subject: Math
Activities done this week: Mathematical concepts taught in the academic year was recapitulated. Students solved the practice paper a day before the Summative Assessment.

Upcoming activities/ HW: Worksheet given.

Activities done this week:
Speaking: Students discussed various conflicts they witnessed in their surrounding.

Reading:
  • Students did Author Study using different reading strategies.
  • Task cards were done.

Grammar: Grammar taught in the academic year was recapitulated. Students answered the Practice paper a day before the Summative Assessment.

Weekly lesson report: 35       Date: 11th March - 15th March                   Class 5B
Subject: Learner Profile            

Activities done this week:
The learner profile which was followed this week was Inquirer students developed their natural curiosity. They acquired the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and researched to show independence in learning. They actively enjoyed learning and this love of learning will be sustained throughout their lives.

Upcoming activities / HW:
Students will be Knowledgeable next week. They will develop and use conceptual understanding and explore knowledge across a range of disciplines. Students will engage with issues and ideas that have local and global significance.

  • Students reflected on the PYP Exhibition.
  • Students read The Peace Book by Todd Parr and understood the meaning of Peace. They shared what peace means to them.
  • Students expressed their understanding of Peace and Conflict using a Y-chart.
  • Students identified the various causes of conflict - Personal, social, Local, National and global conflicts
Upcoming activities/ HW: Do an inquiry on Local and Global Conflicts.
Subject: Math
Activities done this week:
  • Fractions were continued. Students gained an understanding of types of fractions, ordering and comparing fractions. Addition and subtraction of fractions was introduced.
  • Students were told in brief about pi and ‘Pi Day’ was celebrated in the assembly.

Upcoming activities/ HW : Complete the worksheet given based on Fractions.

Grammar: Pronouns were introduced.
Writing: Students wrote the PYPX reflection in their journals.  Leveled task cards were assigned to students to check their comprehension skills.
Reading:
  • Students did Author Study using different reading strategies.
  • Task cards were done.
Listening and Speaking:
Students discussed various conflicts they witnessed in their surrounding.

Activities done this week:


Finding Out:


  • Students watched videos related to the major organ systems in our body.
  • Students identified each organ and how they contribute towards the smooth functioning of a
system.
  • Just-A-Minute (JAM) session was conducted.
  • Students studied the digestive system in detail.
  • Students understood that digestion starts in the mouth and teeth play an important role in
breaking down of food. They watched videos on structure and types of teeth.
Upcoming activities/ HW:  Please complete the cloze (fill in the blanks) and solve the
crossword puzzle related to the digestive system.

Subject: Math
Activities done this week:
  • The Topic: Angles with its importance and usage in daily life was discussed.
  • Students learned about the Perpendicular Bisector and its construction.
  • Constructing angles of 60 degrees , 120 degrees, 180 degrees and 90 degrees was made to
practice.

  • Practice of all the above angles to be done in C.W
  • Activity sheet on measuring an angle given.

Speaking: Various activities were done to strengthen speaking skills in students.


Reading: Students did a novel study on ‘Out of my Mind’ and empathised with the characters.


Grammar: Figures of Speech was continued. Students wrote an informal letter to the principal.


Upcoming activities/ HW: Come prepared on any one body system for a Just-A-Minute (JAM) session.
